Adam Crook Interview

Hey all, check out this quick interview I got to do with Adam Crook. He recently released his debut album 'One Of A Kind'. I seriously recommend checking it out.

Adam Crook Interview

How long have you been working on your debut release 'One Of A Kind'?
Way too long!! I started putting the album together with the right idea in mind about 18 months ago.. But I first recorded way way back in '97. I didn't really get serious till about 'o3 when I met Shaker through 2 best mates, ones on the album, AMC..

What was the concept behind the album?
Something for everyone is what I aimed for. A real range of topics, themes n ideas, a journey of sorts.. Some of the tracks are five or so years old, but myself, Shaker n my boy Jed, who took charge of the track list order, agreed they still fit. Most are newish... Haha!!
It was pain staking picking the tracks. Cuttin down from forty or so songs, to an albums worth. But I hope everyone finds somethin on there they wana bump to..

Who was involved in the production on the album?
Rob Shaker, Rob Shaker & Rob Shaker.. Production on most of it, all the recording mixing mastering as well.. AMC gota a beat on there aswell

What drew you to Hip Hop?
Basketball.. Seriously, I played ball from four or five and all the NBA VHS tapes I'd get had this music I really liked n would bounce around to.. My mum ran a video store that also had CD's, so I'd find out the artist, ask mum to order the CD, then take it home n burn my favourite tracks to cassette!! Old school.. Ha. But ball n hip hop went hand in hand from then n will do so forever..

Who are some of your favourite Hip Hop artists?
Always a tough question, my mates n I used to sit around, drink, play eats and debate top five favourites.. Constantly!!! But a couple of my all time would be Big Pun, Jay, Wu, , Em, Pac, Biggie, Pharoah, R A The Rugged Man, The Roots, Outkast. Also gota love home grown Draphto, Rae, Downsyde, Hill Tops, BnE.. Dude, the list goes on and on..

What do you think about the Perth Hip Hop scene?
It's in a bigger and better place than ever now, it's awesome. I disappeared for a few years cause too many dudes had beef with eachother, always started ish, cats bombed all the venues to a point there was no where to play.. And I just wanted to play and listen to music man!!
Now venues are open to it and the scene has some what cleaned up..
There's so many cats givin their all now a days, it makes people step up their game. It's dope. There are a few people still sold on the tough guy image, when it's not needed, but it is what it is. I'm the vegetarian emcee... NO BEEF!!! haha.. But all in all there's a shit load of talent in this small city, I'm proud to be a part if it..

Who are some locals that you think we should look out for?
Alot a dudes doin great things with their tunes.. But some I gota say, Phat Flo, Rae - Speek Easy, Bitter Belief (as if ya didn't know), AMC, Defyre, Creed Birch, Soma, LSD n his lovely lady, Paulie P, Slackjaw.. Once again man, the list goes on..
Thumbs up to all doin their thing, always remember, it takes balls to stand our side of the mic, it's easy for others to talk this n that.. Just do you and let the rest fall by the wayside..

Where is the album available?
You can download the digital copy from my bandcamp site for $10 bucks right now!!
