Choppin' it up with TROOTH

Hey all, we got a chance to have a quick interview with Perth Hip Hop artist TROOTH. Make sure you check out his videos and tracks because they are DOPE.

TROOTH INTERVIEW

When did you first get into creating hip hop music?
Since the age of 15, I had always been into Hip Hop culture, but I started taking rapping seriously as a career in 2003 after I met Trumpnotics.

What are some producers that you have worked with?
Bruno Favoury, Ta-ku, Mat Rafle and Loftee Beats.

What projects have you worked on?
Gettin U Junkdafied, Too High, United We Stand and Reborn.

I hear you are working on an album, when can we expect to hear anything from that?
Probably early to mid 2012.

What can we expect to hear from your upcoming album?
It's a mixture of grimey tracks and emotionally driven tracks. I worked with Loftee Beats and Mat Rafle for this so it will be diverse.

Check out the official TROOTH website Trooth Music.

Creed Birch & Rob Shaker - Alive Again (Creed Birch Interview)

Hey all, for those that haven't heard Creed Birch & Rob Shaker are releasing their album "Alive Again". I have had the opportunity to conduct a short interview with Creed Birch.

Creed Birch Interview

Can you tell me about the collaborative process with Rob Shaker?
Shaker has been one of my biggest influences and mentors in producing. We both share the same passion for the music , so collaborating with him felt like everything fell into place with ease.
Hes been a familiar face on the perth scene for many years now and has taught me alot of great things.
The album is a collaborative effort with me as an mc/producer and Shaker as a D.j. It was recorded at his house and also chekid mcs. Rob did the mixing and mastering and put alot of effort into the album ,for that i am incredibly grateful.
He is a very talented man and a great friend.

What makes a good MC to you?
Tone, flow, content, inteligence, variety, HONESTY.
Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cant put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.

Who or what influences your music the most?
I listen to alot of different kinds of music which really opens my eyes to try new things, from Royce da 5'9 to Florence and the Machine, from Karnivool to Sharon jones. My favourite Australian mcs at the moment would have to be Drapht, Solo mc (Horrorshow) and ofcourse Bitter Belief, my favourite American mcs at the moment are J Cole, Blu, Black Thought, Slaughterhouse and Pharoahe Monch just to name a few. Collectivly Rob Shaker, Dazastah, Adit, M-phazes, Suffa and Trials have influenced me a great deal on the producing side of things. As for the writing process , Bitter Belief has mentored and taken me under his wing since i was 17 , he has helped me do alot of great things and is one of my closest friends. Trying new things in music is one of my favourite parts of the experience. Ive been influenced a great deal by John Barrett who is a good friend and an amazing musician, who has taught me alot about music in general. We will be doing an album together this year sometime . My friends and family are mostly what my writing is based around as they have shared so many good and not so good moments and experiences with me throughout my life.

When is your album coming out?
The album is waiting to be picked up now, probably this Friday.

Who have you worked with for the album?
The album was originally going to be a mixtape to collaborate with alot of mcs that i consider some of perths best
but after the recording process began Shaker and I decided to make it an album because of the quality of the music made.
Most of the production is by me besides a beat each from Rob Shaker, Taku, Paulie p and Cortext.
The album features Bitter Belief, Down South Crew, Soma, Paulie P, Chekid mc, Tal and Feuds, Sam Roberts and the amazing Sarah Pellicano from the band Pins and Ladles.

Do you have any shows coming up?
Ive got a set at the easter launch gig at The Rosemount on the 24th of April along side some of Perths best mcs such as
Optamus, Dazastah and Layla, Bitter Belief, The Stoops, Chekid and Cortext, Paulie p and Soma just to name a few.
as for the album launch il have to wait for shaker to return from touring with the one and only DRAPHT on his life of riley tour around Australia!!

What's your legacy? What do you want to be remembered by?
My passion and dedication for music. I want to be heard.

Make sure you check out Creed Birch on Facebook.

End of 2010

Hey all, so what a fucking crazy year we have had. I won't make you all read my rant about what I did so I'll get to the point. I have gone through everything I could find and picked out some small awards, as I don't have any money (nobody can seem to find that donate button) I haven't got any prizes for anybody. The best I can do is let you stare at this half naked dude statue so here goes.

Perth Underground Awards 2010

Top Album: Chekid & Corext - Champion Music
This was a solid release that stood out with excellent promotion, a great launch and quality tunes (Dialekt came close with his album Illest Never Heard).

Top Mixtape: DT - Contagious Mixtape
This tape was absolute fire. It was hosted by DJ Symphony and was full of sick rhymes over some non hip hop beats. There were a couple of others that came close (A.Ford, JaeLan, Complete and Knoe FM) but Contagious stood out the most.

Top Artist: Dialekt
Dialekt was probably the most underrated and best performing Perth hip hop artist of this year. Not only did he release a free album "Illest Never Heard" he went over to LA and proved that Perth had what it takes to stand out in the world Hip Hop scene. Dialekt has collaborated with a few local artists this year and everybody that he has featured for would agree that he is easily one of the best.

People's Champ: Rico (Green Gross Productions)
I think if anybody in the Hip Hop community of Perth gets forgotten about it is Rico. Rico has been putting on Mixtape Tuesdays (Dopest event in Perth Hip Hop) at The Newport every month and hosting all of the battles in Perth. He is easy to get in touch with and will always give somebody a shot. If you see him out buy him a beer coz I said so!

 Top Beat Maker: Ta-Ku
Enough said, I think the Beat Down 3 is all people need to see this. I'd say someone else will take this prize next year though, some damn fire beats in Perth these days.

Top Track: SHROOMZone - More More More
I don't know about you but I nearly came in my pants when I heard this joint. Can't wait for an album to come out.

If you guys can think of any more awards for next year feel free to send them through. I only based my awards on things that were posted here on Perth Underground so if you feel like you should have got the award you should have sent me stuff to put up here. BTW none of these should really be taken that seriously as I hold basically no clout when it comes to the Australian Music Industry.

Cheers,
